Commercial Director Mel Pipe was pleased to see last week’s news about the 5% increase of shipments from Asia to North Europe.
According to Drewry’s latest Container Insight Weekly analysis, the westbound Asia to North Europe trade is on course to break the 10 million teu milestone in 2017, following a strong peak season.
Mel commented “Obviously it’s great news for the industry that volumes are up, and it was no surprise to read that the general rise of online shopping contributed to this strong peak season. But one of the other contributing factors was the increasing adoption in Europe of America’s retail marketing ‘Black Friday’ event on the last Friday of November”.
