Worlds fastest train scanner now in use

February 17, 2012

The world’s fastest train scanner, which produces quality images while a train runs through at up to 60kph, opened this week in the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands

The machine will be used by Dutch Customs officials at the port who select containers on the basis of risk analysis.

They will use the scanner to check export cargo on inbound trains from the European hinterland.
After scanning, the containers are loaded on vessels for export outside the EU.

The scanning installation is located at the Maasvlakte area, near to the N15 motorway on one side and the Steinweg Steel Terminal on the other.

When the train scanner is fully integrated into Customs processes, a shipping container will only be taken out of the logistics process if the scanned image provides grounds for it.

Similar installations in other countries function up to a speed of 30kph.
