United airlines boss quits
November 10, 2011
The cargo arm of United Airlines has suffered another blow with the departure of Scott Dolan, Senior VP of airport operations and cargo.
Dolan, who was President of United Cargo until the Chicago-based carrier merged with Continental, left the airline last month.
Sources suggest “he hadn’t seen eye-to-eye” with CEO Jeff Smisek.
The news follows several high profile losses at United Cargo, notably Jim McKeon, senior director of sales at Continental Airlines Cargo, who left to become strategic advisor at Southwest’s cargo business.
The new carrier now has neither of its original cargo chiefs.
Continental was widely recognised by the industry as the stronger cargo airline of the pair, and the new United has struggled in its attempts to convince customers that the airline will retain those standards, despite being headed by former Continental employee, Robbie Anderson.
Dolan is well-respected in the industry. Formerly COO at Atlas Air, and previously at Polar Air Cargo, sources say he is a “true professional”, “well-respected by forwarders” and “good to deal with”.
United Airlines said only that it had appointed Jon Roitman to serve as Senior Vice-President Airport Operations and Cargo, “succeeding Scott Dolan, who left the company”.
Roitman was formerly VP for Newark hub operations.
