LD and DFDS launch channel service

February 6, 2012

DFDS and its French partner LD Lines will launch their Calais-Dover ferry service on 17 February.

LD Lines’ Norman Spirit (pictured) will be transferred to the Calais route from Dunkirk, where it has been operating on DFDS’s service to Dover since mid-November last year, following the suspension of SeaFrance services.

DFDS-LD Lines said in a statement this morning that the new service would be joined by a second ferry as soon as a suitable ship became available.

Meanwhile, the lines are hiring a total of 300 seafaring and 70 land-based staff to work on the service.

“The process of hiring people, many of these being former SeaFrance staff, has already started,” the statement added.
