Immingham / Rotterdam service stepped up by DFDS

January 12, 2012

DFDS Seaways is boosting its UK-Rotterdam freight fleet in an expansionary move that defies European economic gloom.

From 17 January, the company will increase frequency and capacity on its Immingham-Rotterdam service by adding the 1,680 lane metre Anglia Seaways (pictured) to the route.

“In recent months, we have seen a good development in freight traffic to and from the Humber area, and naturally, we would like to act on the demand put forward by our customers,” said Sean Potter, MD of DFDS Seaways’ freight services in the UK.

The Anglia Seaways, a freight-only ferry with capacity equivalent to 120 trailers and which has recently been operating on the Irish Sea, was inherited by DFDS when it took over Norfolkline.

The vessel’s arrival will increase the number of DFDS Seaways vessels between Immingham and Felixstowe in the UK and Rotterdam from five to six, three of these being on the Immingham route.

“There will be seven departures a week from Immingham to Rotterdam, which further enhances our ability to provide our customers such as hauliers, heavy industries, the food industry and others, with robust, competitive and reliable sea transport,” said Potter.

“We will be able to offer more than 50 departures a week between the Netherlands and the UK [Immingham, Felixstowe and Newcastle] and this will provide our customers with a flexibility which I am confident will be appreciated, especially at peak times in the middle of the week.”
