Global schedule reliabilty falls by 2%
November 11, 2011
Global schedule reliability decreased from 66% in September to 64% in October, according to analysts.
The SeaIntel Maritime Analysis monthly Global Liner Schedule Report reveals that, from a trade lane perspective, the decline was primarily driven by declines in the South America to Europe and North America trades as well as the Transatlantic trades. Reliability improvements were seen on the Transpacific and Asia-Europe head haul trades.
SeaIntel Maritime Analysis notes that among the top-20 global carriers, Hamburg Süd and Maersk Line continue to perform significantly above other carriers. This week Hamburg Süd took the number one spot, but only with the smallest of margins. Hamburg Süd had an on time reliability of 79.7% versus Maersk Line at 79.4%. Hyundai Merchant Marine was new at number 3 spot.
At the bottom of the top-20 carriers is MSC with a global schedule on time performance of 42%.
The Global Liner Schedule Report publishes reliability statistics only a few days after the end of each month, and therefore enables the market a real-time view of schedule reliability developments. Starting from November, vessel arrivals will be measured by the hour for a number of carriers, enabling further detailed measurements for subscribers from December 2011.
With a measurement of more than 7500 vessel arrivals in October 2011 – and a total of 28.000 arrivals across 200 ports since July 2011 – SeaIntel Maritime Analysis claims to be the most comprehensive study of schedule reliability undertaken in the market.
