Air cargo services return to Coventry
October 13, 2011
Air cargo services are to return to the UK’s Coventry Airport, it was confirmed yesterday.
The resumption of cargo services is the first move towards the airport becoming fully operational again.
According to local reports, a six-figure deal has been agreed with Atlantic Airlines to run cargo flights to Dublin, Lille in France and Maastricht in the Netherlands, with 16 jobs being created.
Ten are in air traffic control, operation and fire departments, while six have transferred from Birmingham after the return of Atlantic Airlines to Coventry.
The carrier switched to the neighbouring airport in 2009, when Coventry temporarily closed.
Airport owner Sir Peter Rigby said: “Signing the contract with Atlantic Airlines is an important milestone in terms of the airport moving back to where it was.
“It has been a target of mine to see these flights return since I took over the airport last year.
Atlantic Airlines, part of the West Atlantic group, is Europe’s largest regional cargo operator.
